Planning And Methods of Commercial Demolition
When this design life of a
building is over, it is not safe for living and its neighboring buildings. The
structure starts to lose its stability or acquire structural damage. A small
structure is demolished to build a big structure, etc. Whatever the reason for commercial demolition Point Cook, it requires proper planning and using the right methods.
A detailed plan that
illustrates the different processes involved in commercial demolition Point Cook includes:
·
A plan
indicating the procedure for the demolition; detailed sequence of demolishing
structural members as well as the demolition method to be adopted.
·
A plan about all
precautionary measures for the protection of the public including protective
screens and safety nets, hoardings, catch platforms, covered walkways,
scaffolding, and catch fans
·
The distances
from the building to be demolished to its adjacent buildings and street
structures.
·
The location of
the building.
·
The structural
support systems of the building.
·
The time
required for the complete demolition process.
There are two types of commercial demolition Point Cook methods used for commercial buildings and structures; non-explosive
demolition and explosive demolition.
Non-Explosive Demolition Method
Non-explosive demolition
means the demolition work is done with some equipment without using any
explosives. The different pieces of equipment used for the non-explosive
demolition are:
Excavators and bulldozers. These are big machines used to demolish commercial buildings of small
sizes. They are used for excavation of soil and transferring of debris to
trucks.
Sledgehammer. It is a small
handheld hammer used for the commercial demolition of a single column or small
wall.
Wrecking balls. When the
building is up to 6-7 stories, it cannot be demolished with the help of
excavators or bulldozers, wrecking balls are used to perform the job. The
wrecking ball crack is attached to a huge steel ball hanging from a steel
rope. The steel ball with force strikes
the building; thus, demolishing that part of the building.
High reach excavators. These
machines are used in the demolition of a tall building, particularly when
demolition by an explosion is not possible. A building of up to 300ft in height
can be demolished by this type of machine.
Explosive Demolition Method
Implosion is the process of
commercial demolition with the use of explosives. The structure collapses if
the supports of the building are removed. When the implosion technique is used,
the main supports of the buildings such as the beams of a column and slab are
fixed with explosives.
When these explosives are
detonated, the column collapse and so is the structure itself. There are two
types of implosion, depending on how the structure falls:
Falling like a tree. When there
is free space is available near the building, this type of demolition is recommended. With this, steel cables are tied to
the building to control the direction of the building when it falls.
Falling into its own footprint. When there are no free spaces available around the building and the
structure around the building has to be protected, this method is used. In this
type of demolition, the workers set the explosives on the floor below the
middle part of the building.
